Kaos brings forth Gaea, who creates Ouranos. Gaea and Ouranos produce the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hekatonchieres. Ouranos locks his children in Tartaros. And Gaea makes a sickle out of admantine. She calls forth the male Titans: Kronos, Oceanus, Iapetus, Hyperion, Krios, and Polos. Hyperion holds his father up in the east, Iapetus in the west, Polos in the North, and Krios in the South, while Kronos uses the sickle to cut open Ouranos. Oceanus retires to the sea. The drops of Ouranos' blood fall onto Gaea, thus creating the Gigantes (seen in OLYMPIANS Book 2, Athena: Grey- Eyed Goddess), the Nymphs, the Moirae (also seen in Athena), and Aphrodite (as seen in OLYMPIANS Book 6, Aphrodite: Goddess of Love). Kronos and the other Titans create humans, and Kronos takes Rhea as his queen. Gaea prphesies, "as you have overthrown your father, so shall your child overthrow you". In order to prevent this, Kronos swallows Hestia, Hades, Demeter, Poseidon, and Hera as they are born. Gaea gives her grieving daughter advice: go to Crete, hide her sixth baby Zeus there, and swap him with a stone. When Zeus grows up, he escapes from the cave he grew up in, and Metis, his crush, helps him plan his siblings' escape. They trick Kronos into swallowing a special herb that makes him regurgitate his children. Hera is lowered down by Zeus, Poseidon lands in the sea, Demeter lands in a corn field, Hades smashes into the ground, and Hestia just walks out of her father's mouth. She takes the form of a flame. For eleven years, Zeus, Hera, Demeter, Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Kronos, Iapetus, Polos, Krios, Hyperion, and the Titan Atlas fight in a war. Zeus turns to Gaea for help. She tells him to go to Tartaros and free the Cyclopes and the Hekatonchieres. They would give him his birthright (the ability to control lightning). After slaying the dragon Kampe, Zeus makes it to Tartaros, and frees the Cyclopes, who in gratitude give him his thunderbolt. They also give Poseidon a trident that could cause earthquakes, and Hades a helmet of invisibility. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon finally kill Kronos and send the rest of the Titans who had participated in the war to Tartaros, and Hestia and Hera make peace with the Titanesses. The Titan Atlas is punished by being sentenced to hold up Ouranos. Zeus makes his home on Olympus, the tallest mountain left standing after the war.
